The Perfect Client: The Ideal Profile of Our Clients
Summary
We strive to be the best attorneys for our clients; however, often the success of the client depends on the client’s decisions. We want clients who are family orientated and want to become more efficient and organized. As attorneys, we can only counsel clients on what to do; clients must take our advice and work to implement our strategies in order to be successful.
We Want Clients Who Are Family and Community Oriented
We want a client who wants the best for their family – one who wants their assets to be inherited by their family. If they have no immediate family, they want to provide for parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and other close relatives or set up a Family Foundation that will help to make the world a better place. We do not want a client who wants to blow their money on riotous living and have the check to their undertaker bounce.
We Want Clients Who Are Enthusiastic and Sincerely Interested In Becoming Efficient and Organized
Think how a doctor feels when dealing with a patient who continues to smoke when they have lung problems or refuses to take the prescribed medicine. When a client delays or refuses to do what they have been advised to do, it takes the fun out of working with them. It is like ballroom dancing – when the client willingly follows the lead of the attorney, it results in a delightful and enjoyable performance.
We Want Clients Who Are Decisive
If a client is given evidence that they will save a million dollars by making a legal move now, we do not want to have to follow-up with them three or four times to get them to act on this advice. On too many occasions, we have made recommendations on how to avoid a family catastrophe and had the client die without making a decision. In such circumstances, the client’s family suffers the consequences. With legal matters, we need decisions made in a timely fashion!
We Want Clients Who Are Financially Responsible
We do not want to spend negative time making collection calls to clients. Good clients want their attorneys to be financially secure. They do not want their attorneys worrying about being paid for their services while they are concentrating on helping them solve major problems.
We Want Clients Who Abide The Philosophy of The Integrity Agreement
We realize that, in even the best marriage or attorney/client relationship, some discomforts exist. That's just life. It is important under the Integrity Agreement that we communicate not only our discomforts to one another but also what we want done to resolve those discomforts to teach each other and to improve ourselves by this process.
We Want Clients Who Look Forward to a Long-Term Working Partnership
It is so gratifying to reciprocally have persons working with you that you may depend on over the long haul.
